Driver Qualifications
by Tony Scotti
Below is our opinion of driver qualifications in the areas of Security and Driving.
| |
| The definition of a Defensive Driver is one who commits no driving errors and makes allowances for the lack of skill or improper driving practices of the other driver. A DEFENSIVE DRIVER adjusts driving to compensate for unusual weather, road, and traffic conditions, and is not tricked into an accident by the unsafe actions of pedestrians or other drivers. By being alert to accident inducing situation, the driver takes the necessary precautions to prevent the accident. |
| |
| The DEFENSIVE DRIVER knows when it is necessary to slow down, stop, or yield the right-of-way to avoid involvement. This definition is impossible to adhere to. It is hard to "commit no driving errors" all the time. |
| QUALIFICATIONS: |

Good work attendance record. Low absenteeism and punctuality are vital. |

Willing to work long hours. |
| |
The driver of the VIP's vehicle should be a fully-trained member of a protective team, not just a chauffeur. |

| |
| SECURITY: |
Be an ex-police officer or someone involved in security. |
Aware of surveillance techniques. |

Have an understanding of the security system at the facility. |
Be in good physical condition. |

| It might be hard to find someone with all these qualifications, and of course a great deal depends on the level of threat. |
