Books by Tony Scotti

The book on the left is the original driving book, written in 1988 for the Police Community. Since that time the book has gone through many changes. The editors asked if I would change the content of the book to appeal to the mass market. I did it, but didn’t think the public would be interested in a driving book. My editor, who I describe as “pleasantly persistent”, was right again, the book she suggested I put together, (pictured on the right), and the one I thought would not sell, is in its 4th Edition. The book is used in all our training programs.

This is how the marketing people described the book –
Driving Techniques is a comprehensive guide on driving. It is written in an easy conversational style that enhances learning and retention. It is used in both high school and corporate security programs throughout the US and abroad.  It is not meant for the security market, but covers many subjects that are useful for security drivers. Text covers the mind-body-driving connection, vision and space, seat belts, child safety seats, air bags, tires, car care, vehicle dynamics, maintaining traction, braking skids, power skids, steering and g-forces, curves and cornering at speed, stopping distances, braking control, Non-ABS and ABS techniques, turning, passing what causes accidents and how to deal with them, tips that could save lives, foul weather driving, night driving road rage, alone behind the wheel.

Review One
“Most of the people use their cars everyday, either for pleasure, or because they have to - when there is no other way. They probably carry other people inside there cars, or even small children. The responsibility is very high and the risk of the danger very close if you are not paying attention to those few - sometimes timeless tips mentioned in this book. Every driver behind the wheel should read this book and learn how to control / inspect their vehicle in order to avoid the unexpected”

Review Two
I was taught the basics by my friends, but I knew I had to learn more than those "basics", so I bought a lot of books and read them on my spare time. This book written by Scotti is something that really helped me a lot because it has a lot of information and detailed explanations, including the physics involved in driving. Somehow, the knowledge I gained here helped me become a more confident and a reliable driver. I would recommend this book for all who really need to become good drivers. Don't just drive; drive safely, well and correctly! This is the essence of the book, and how to do that? It's in this book.

Review Three
This is a great book!! It has lots of useful information that the everyday person can use. It is written in a way that is easy to understand. As a new mom the information on car seats was very valuable.

Teachers Guide

Since the book has been selected by some high schools for driver education, the next thing to do was create a Lesson Plan and Teachers guide. It was much harder to write the teachers Guide than it was to write the book.

EXECUTIVE SAFETY & INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM
The book, published by Prentice Hall, was written in 1986 therefore some chapters are dated. But some of the chapters including those on traveling safely through foreign countries, basic personal security in the international arena, are still valid. The book was made into a set of videos produced by Motorola.

The book was written for Executive’s and was not intended for the security community. What strikes me, and others, about the book is that in the 23 years since it was written there is more that is similar to today’s events than is different.

You can usually find use copies of the book on the internet. The hard back version is usually a little more expensive than the paperback but both are inexpensive. A new updated version should be out this summer – key word should.

In the late 80’s  executives from all over the globe were concerned about security, which prompted the publishers to  translate the book into other languages here are two and I’m not sure  what language they are – except the one on the left  gets your attention.

THREE SECONDS TO SAFETY
Booklet, written in the late 80’s, on how to avoid vehicle attacks, specifically carjacking, it was written when carjackings were prevalent.  It was written as a marketing tool for a company that made shatter proof glass. I always liked the picture on the cover.  The book covers the ingredients necessary for a successful ambush, and goes into the color code system. Since the basic theory behind an ambush has not changed, the content of the booklet is still valid. That section of the booklet that has changed pertains to the the vehicle. There was a video done about the book but I don’t know if it is still in existence.

OTHER BOOKS

I have written numerous articles for security publications, including an article on Roadside Bombs, and I am in the process a writing two new books “Vehicle Dynamics for Driver Trainers and the “The Corporate Guide to Security Driving”. Both books will come with power point presentations.

A couple of years back I wrote a 20 page outline “Driving in Iraq” that was adopted by many of the private security companies working in Iraq.

Many of my articles appear on this web site. I developed the site to benefit the interests of both the Executive Protection and Security
